Wow! As quickly as it came, HxGN LIVE 2018 was over in the blink of an eye. We somehow manage to get bigger and better every year – and to me, this year was exponentially better than years past.
The week started with an eruption of disruption via Ola Rollén’s keynote address on Tuesday night, where he inspired the 3,500 attendees with Hexagon’s vision for a connected future. But that certainly wasn’t the only news to emerge from this year’s HxGN LIVE, with numerous launches across our divisions.
The biggest news announced in Las Vegas at HxGN Live was presented by Rollén during his keynote, “The Big Leap.” He revealed Hexagon’s Xalt, which represents our commitment to innovation through a foundational framework that will underpin all Hexagon solutions going forward.
Xalt aims to close the gap between the amount of data being created by the Internet of Things (IoT) and the degree to which we put that data to use. To achieve this, Hexagon is combining domain knowledge and key integrations across our divisions to help companies accelerate their digital transformation journeys. Xalt addresses the critical IoT points of leverage: cloud orchestration, mobility, visualisation, edge computing, enterprise integration, and AI everywhere.
Major technology innovations were further revealed keynotes from Hexagon’s Geosystems division president Juergen Dold, as well as Hexagon’s PPM division president, Mattias Stenberg.
The second product from Hexagon’s Geosystems division’s revolutionary BLK line was finally revealed: the BLK3D. This handheld 3D imager provides immediate and precise 3D measurements from any image it captures.
Say goodbye to paper documentation and measurement tapes, as the BLK3D will save time and ensure faster decision-making in daily workflows – whether creating floor plans and estimating building installations or documenting construction progress and creating as-built facility documentation.
Another product that Dold revealed onstage from his backpack was the portable Leica RTC360. This laser scanner is equipped with edge computing technology to enable fast and highly accurate creation of 3D models in the field. The RTC360 combines high-performance laser scanning, edge computing, and mobile app technologies to pre-register captured scans quickly and accurately. The Leica RTC360 was designed for construction professionals, plant operators, public safety officials, and others who face complex projects with tight constraints. The RTC360 provides a new, unique way to digitally capture the reality of sites – and process and visualise that data for faster, immediate decision making.
The HxGN MineOperate UG Pro featured at HxGN LIVE 2018 is a new platform for managing underground fleet equipment and broadcasting time-utilisation information instantly in remote areas deep below the surface. UG Pro monitors task-level activities, updating miner and machine workflows in real-time. Developed specifically for mines lacking data networks underground, UG Pro optimises efficiency using tablets that store and forward critical information between supervisors and workers via network access points.
SDx leverages the data within the digital twin to provide value-based work processes covering the complete facility lifecycle – improving project and operational efficiency while reducing risk. A modular, cloud-based asset lifecycle information management (ALIM) solution, SDx optimises efficiency, improves decision making, and ensures safety throughout the entire lifecycle of industrial facilities within the power and oil and gas industries.
These five Technology Highlights launched at HxGN LIVE are among the top technologies to watch this year from Hexagon, solutions we believe will drive change in the months and years to come.
